Speaking of Bill...

Yes, speaking of me, a wonderful idea. Be warned though that this is not for the faint of heart. I will be bitching about my daily struggles with no talent ass clowns, the insufficient number of hours in a day and my neverending search for good food. Still here? Excellent. Read on and join in.

brains or bust!

last night sarah and i caught the opening monologue of the tonight show with leno. it's rare that we watch the show but i am SO glad we did. after some decent jokes, jay brought onto stage 2 asian guys from cal tech. one's studying physics and the other astro-physics. it reminded me of college [sniff]. anyway, one of the guys just set a new record in speedcubing - yeah, as in solving rubik's cubes. jay then takes a cube, throughly messes it up and this guy solves the puzzle in about...18 seconds.

but that's not why i liked the segment...

jay makes a keen observation that as "impressive" as the feat may be, it doesn't really hold any value in the real world. can't argue with that. so in a flash, jay brings out 5 buxom women wearing only red bras and black pants. he tells the guy that unhooking bras will be far more useful in the long run and times him...8 seconds.

clearly, there is more to life than just brains.

speaking on brain-childs, stewie from family guy is slated to host his own internet talk show.

chill-axin'

...as in chillin' and relaxin' (to use one of bobby's terms).

that's what i'm anticipating going into this weekend. sure there are the standard errands to be run, but otherwise, it's supposed to snow a bunch tonight, effectively confining us to the home. chicago's white icy hand is likely to slap down any residual "need" to go out on the town. sure I won't have any "drunk stories" to relay or anything to blog about really, but i just don't care. if i'm lucky, i may even catch a cartoon tomorrow.

on a sad note, my 3G ipod of 2.5 years is ill. it randomly reset on me the other day and the battery life is down to a pitiful 4-5 hours at best. is a video ipod on the way? i just don't know...

Revision: it's 3pm now and the snow in the city is blizzard-like. i can only hope it dies down soon, doesn't delay my train home and that i don't have to clean snow off my car. while i'm at it, i suppose i'll ask for winning lottery ticket too.

what the funk?

it's the first full week of work after the holidays and i can't escape those post-holiday blues. not that the holidays were so joyous as to cast a shadow on everything else, but simply that in the intermediate future, i see nothing to look forward to but the weekends and work. it could be just the fact that it's monday, but right now, i'm in a funk.

contributing to this melancholy is the fact that hotel sarah and bill has now closed for the season. after nearly 3 months of visiting guests, our appointment book is empty and the air matress is deflated. entertaining people takes a bit of work, but it's fun in its own way. what are sarah and i to do with a cabinet full of liquor and wine? how about the 5 pound tub of honey roasted peanuts?

what i think this all boils down to is a lack of short-term goals. a lack of something to "shoot for." but that void is soon to be filled...for both sarah and i. no we're not have a kid, we're going back to school. that means sarah begins her CFA studying and i start my path towards an mba.

here's to the pursuit of higher education (although not nearly as intense as faisal's).

2005+1

i have returned to the 'grind' and am tap-a-tap-tapping at my keyboard like any given work day. i'm also completely exhausted. going to bed around 3am for the past few days has thrown my schedule off a bunch (i wonder how frank does it?) Happy New Year to everyone and a quick happy birthday shout-out to rachael who just hit the quarter-century mark.

this weekend was a blast. we went to cleveland to join her family (extended too) at a hotel where everybody got a room and we all played random games in one of the party rooms. i think there were 40+ people in total. the other thing is sarah and i surprised everybody because nobody except her grandparents knew we were coming in. i think best reactions go to brian and her great aunt teri. the cousins were as cute as ever - pictures to come...probably on sarah's blog because i'm too lazy.

so the new year is here and i have a few plans, as opposed to resolutions. why the difference? why quibble over semantics? let's just say i have various things i plan on doing before 2007. saying i now have any more resolve to achieve those plans than i did at the end of 2005 would simply be a lie. thus, my plans for the year so far are:

- go back to school
- watch how much i eat (i already eat healthy, well balanced meals, i just eat too much)

wish me luck...

lastly, i saw memoirs of a geisha. i know ms. alexakis wrote her review while ago, but i need to add in my two cents. i think those who have already read the book will be pleased with this flick. it stays true to storyline and only diverges for short stints that are clearly due to time constraints. it gave a solid look into the life and world of geishas while staying away from painting the japanese culture in a bad light. for those of you who haven't read the book, i think you may find it a little slow at first, but i think you'll enjoy the cinematography at the very least. and if you're like brad, i'll know what to get you next christmas...a geisha.
