Speaking of Bill...

Yes, speaking of me, a wonderful idea. Be warned though that this is not for the faint of heart. I will be bitching about my daily struggles with no talent ass clowns, the insufficient number of hours in a day and my neverending search for good food. Still here? Excellent. Read on and join in.

ants marching...

right now huge pro-immigrant rallies are going on in all of the major cities. chicago is no exception and there are about 300-500,000 marching outside of sarah's building at the moment. now i haven't thought through my take on every facet of this super-touchy-highly-politicized-debate, but do i have a couple of points to make. and for those of you out there randomly reading this blog and know nothing about me, let me preface my comments with fact that i, myself, am the product of first-generation immigrants.

#1. i don't understand why the children are skipping school. yes, the protests are dubbed "a day without immigrants" but seriously, the targets here are the business men and the policy makers. will they still feel a financial pinch if the children stay in class? of course. to be fair, i understand the kids wanting to support their parents and country but again, the solidarity would still be present in their absence.

#2. this protest is 99% hispanic and the issue here is NOT U.S. immigration policy but U.S.-Mexico immigration policy. i just like a little truth in protesting. cut the crap. every morning i get up and listen to NPR and if there's an interview going on about immigration reform, it WILL be concerning border relations. i don't have a solution to this problem, but i am curious as to why immigration reform has grown so large recently. it's not a new issue, people just haven't cared. just look at our pathetic us-mexico border. we can put teams of people on the moon and harness nuclear energy but we can't build a better border than an unguarded and unmonitored cheap ass barbed wire fence that isn't even continuous? i don't buy it. as we can all see by the iraq war now, if america wants something done, it'll do it no matter what the costs.

let me break down the demographics here. 500,000 immigrants. from sarah's birds-eye view she counted a group of 50 irish, 50 gay people waiving rainbow flags (don't ask me why they're there) , several hundred eastern europe descendents and about 7 southeast asians, of which 5 were on food delivery runs. you think i'm kidding? hit up chinatown and i can guarantee you that there will be no shortage or BBQ pork buns, dim sum or wanton soup. if you go by a local chinese take-out place and it is closed, that's simply because it's monday and that's what chinese take-out places do.

am i off base with my rant? lemme know.
